Waking up to the Menopause with Dame Kelly Holmes

Insight
& Backgrounds

Sleep deprivation is a crucial but often ignored symptom for perimenopausal and menopausal women, 69% of them said that it had a negative impact on their emotional well-being with 50% not even realising it was a symptom!

We realised two things: women were needlessly suffering, and we had to act. For Dunelm’s second annual Menopause campaign, we’re raising awareness of insomnia and helping to provide solutions and support.

Coinciding with Menopause Awareness Month, we have launched ‘Waking up to the Menopause’.

Awareness:
Partnering with Dame Kelly, we’re opening up the conversation around menopausal insomnia and waking people up to the adverse effect this has on women’s well-being.

Education:
Revealed new report findings around sleeping habits to pinpoint the most common wake up time (3.29am – if you didn’t know) and highlighted activities and solutions to help people nod back off to sleep.

Action:
We’ve onboarded a panel of experts and influencers dedicated to improving sleep habits. Pooling the collective wisdom of menopause specialist Dr Clare Spencer, nutritionist Farzanah Nasser, breathwork and meditation specialist, Libby Stevenson, Pilates instructor, Dinah Siman and sleep hygiene specialist Sally Hurman – we’re on a mission to improve the quality of sleep for women experiencing menopausal symptoms across the UK.
