Introducing Retriva: Making brands visable again in an AI-led world
At Tangerine, we’ve launched Retriva, a new strategic tool designed to help brands understand and measure how they appear in AI-generated answers.
We created Retriva in response to a clear shift in consumer behaviour. Our latest research shows that people are increasingly relying on AI when searching online and making purchasing decisions – and that has huge implications for how brands show up.
We’re seeing what we describe as an emerging “AI invisibility crisis.” Traditional search rankings and social reach are no longer enough to guarantee visibility. Instead, whether a brand is surfaced inside AI tools is increasingly becoming the deciding factor in whether consumers ever see it.
Our research really brought this to life. Nearly half (47%) of UK adults told us they would rather rephrase a question than leave an AI platform if they don’t get the answer they want first time. And more than a quarter (26%) stop searching altogether once an AI tool gives them a response or recommendation.
That’s a fundamental shift. The journey is shorter, more compressed, and far more influenced by AI than ever before.
So, what does Retriva do?
Retriva is designed to diagnose how brands are appearing across AI-led environments. It helps identify where they’re being overlooked, and highlights the digital, search, earned and authority signals that need strengthening to improve visibility, trust and recommendation over time.
In simple terms, it gives brands a clearer picture of how AI “sees” them, and what needs to change to stay visible.
The shift is even bigger among younger audiences
When we looked deeper into the data, it became clear just how quickly this behaviour is evolving, especially among younger consumers.
Four in ten (40%) 25–34-year-olds now trust AI as a primary source of information, and 39% say they’ve already made purchases based directly on AI-generated recommendations.
For us, that reinforces just how critical it is for brands to understand and influence their presence within these environments now – not later.
Ultimately, Retriva is our response to a fundamental shift in how people search, discover and choose brands. As AI increasingly shapes what consumers see, and what they don’t, visibility can no longer be taken for granted. By helping brands understand how they show up in AI-generated environments and what needs to change, we’re giving them the clarity and control they need to stay relevant, trusted and recommended in a rapidly evolving landscape.
