Specsavers
WFH excuse
The Lionesses were roaring again in the summer of 2023.
The only problem was, it was hard to watch unless you had a television at work, a lenient boss or a convenient remote working policy.
Previous major international football tournaments have helped establish an affinity between Specsavers and the England teams, but how could we build on that momentum and enable the people of England see the Lionesses with their own eyes?
By giving them an excuse…
The
creative
The nine-hour time difference saw the whole country battle early mornings and balance work to catch a game, giving Specsavers the perfect opportunity to capture that public mood and offer a light-hearted solution… involving a sloth and an ice-cream, obviously.
An editable faux appointment letter from Head of Appointments, Mr Bob Lenscloth, gave Lioness fans the perfect, ready made excuse to get out of work and cheer on England from the other side of the world.
From viral successes in previous tournaments we knew timing was everything, so like Mary Earps in a penalty shoot-out, we held our nerve. Waiting until the final to post meant we risked never going live, but we had faith in the Lionesses and eventually posted hours before the kick-off, when excitement on social conversation was at its peak.
Just don’t ask to speak to Mr Lenscloth if you ring Specsavers head office…
